Explore our Power-To-X demonstration at the Finland pavilion of EXPO 2020 Dubai
The Power-to-X demonstration unit captures CO2 directly from the air and combines it with hydrogen produced through water-electrolysis. Hydrogen and carbon dioxide are then converted to synthetic natural gas through bio-methanation. That fuel powered a coffee-machine placed at the Finland Pavilion of EXPO 2020 Dubai.
Powering a coffee machine from the CO2 you exhale.
Soletair Power’s P2X demo unit captures CO2 from the air, combines it with hydrogen molecules, and produces synthetic methane fuel.
This Power-to-X demo unit is just the starting point; it showcases what technological innovation is capable of doing. The next steps are to scale up and commercialize the innovation.
Imagine a world where your breath turns into carbon-neutral fuel…
The P2X demo unit is capturing CO₂ from the air inside the Finnish pavilion and combining it with hydrogen split from water by electrolysis. Capturing CO₂ from in-house air also improves the quality of the air. A biomethanation process converts it into carbon-neutral synthetic methane fuel, which provides clean power to make coffee for visitors to the pavilion.
“Imagine a world where your breath turns into carbon-neutral fuel; participating in the World Expo, Wärtsilä invites individuals and companies to imagine the change needed for our world to be more sustainable. And with the P2X demonstration, we can show that even the most ambitious ideas can be turned into real innovations. Wärtsilä has taken a leadership position in utilizing smart technologies to create a more sustainable future, both for the industries we serve and for the world in general,” says Atte Palomäki, Executive Vice President for Communications, Branding & Marketing at Wärtsilä Corporation.
Wärtsilä is an official partner of Business Finland, the Finnish governmental organization for innovation funding and trade, travel, and investment promotion. Soletair Power and Q Power are promising start-up companies with whom Wärtsilä has strategic cooperation agreements.
