The Story of Kimmo Rauma – Board Chair at Soletair Power

Dr. Kimmo Rauma is a Finnish entrepreneur and technology leader, renowned for his pioneering work in electrification and his current focus on innovative carbon capture solutions at Soletair Power.

One moment that had a turning point in Kimmo Rauma’s career choice was when he broke his knee during a football game. The knee sufferer had to realize that he could not continue his early career as a pilot and had to develop another profession.

Nokia was really booming at the time, and I heard somewhere that engineers had higher salaries than doctors,” Rauma describes his choices after high school. “Electrical engineering was the only high school course I failed. Perhaps it was because of my poor performance that I felt that I needed to look into this matter more closely.

Dr. Rauma holds both Master’s and Doctorates degrees in Electrical Engineering from LUT University (Lappeenranta University of Technology) in Finland. His research focused on hybrid systems for mobile work machines, foreshadowing his later involvement in electrification technologies.

After completing his doctoral studies, Kimmo transitioned into the corporate world. From 2006 to 2009, he served as Manager of Power SW at Vacon Plc.

Dr. Rauma founded several technology start-ups in various fields, from dental technology to machine learning during this period.

In 2010, Kimmo co-founded Visedo Oy, aiming to develop electric solutions for heavy-duty industries. Starting as Chief Technology Officer (CTO), he became the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in 2014, guiding the company to significant growth.

Under Kimmo Rauma’s leadership, Visedo established itself as a leading force in the heavy-duty electrification sector. Visedo’s success led to its acquisition by the Danfoss Group in 2017, subsequently rebranded as Danfoss Editron.

Kimmo also co-founded a company named Vionice Ltd in 2014; an AI company later acquired by Vaisala Oyj. He also served on various boards, contributing to emerging technologies and innovation.

Following Visedo’s acquisition, Kimmo became Vice President at Danfoss Editron, focusing on electric drivetrains for marine, off-highway, and transportation sectors. In 2017, he relocated to the United States to lead Danfoss Editron’s electrification efforts in the North American market.

In 2024, Kimmo returned to Finland. He started working more closely with Soletair Power. As Chair of the Board and Partner, Kimmo now applies his expertise on developing globally scalable carbon capture technologies.

Kimmo is also involved with Elstor Oy, focusing on Green Steam as a Service (GSaaS) for various industries (2018-Present). He is a member of the Electric Vehicle Systems Program steering group of the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation and serves on the board of LUT University (2017-Present). Kimmo also owns TRauma Holding since 2017 and was a partner at Akkurate Oy, a battery lifetime software and cell testing service company acquired by Sandvik in 2020 (2017-2020).

Throughout his career, Dr. Kimmo Rauma has consistently sought opportunities to contribute to technological advancements to create a positive impact on the world. His contributions to the field of technology and his entrepreneurial spirit serve as an inspiration to aspiring innovators and entrepreneurs around the world.

According to Kimmo Rauma, entrepreneurship is rarely a rational choice. He sees his drift into a rapidly growing field as the sum of various coincidences.
